A Challenging Week at Jakes Removals

This past week at Jakes Removals has been a real test for our team. With a packed schedule, unexpected changes, and some tricky heavy-lifting jobs, we had our hands full. On top of that, a few of our crew were out due to injuries and illness, but we pulled together to make sure every move went as smoothly as possible.

A Big Move in Keilor

One of the bigger jobs we tackled this week was a two-day move in Keilor, in Melbourne’s North-West. The client was moving from a four-bedroom home and needed both packing and moving services. Given the sheer amount of stuff to be packed and transported, we decided to split the job over two days to ensure everything was done properly.

We supplied 80 tea chest boxes and 20 smaller book/wine boxes, but the client had already packed quite a few things before we arrived. The job wasn’t just about packing and shifting boxes, though. The client also had a massive piece of gym equipment—over 200kg and unable to be dismantled—which required some careful planning.

The real challenge, however, was moving a grand piano from the second floor. Shifting a piano is always tricky, but dealing with stairs adds a whole new level of difficulty. With the right equipment and extra manpower, we carefully maneuvered it down the staircase, ensuring both the piano and property remained in perfect condition. By the time both of our large trucks were fully loaded, it was clear why this move needed the extra time and effort.

Last-Minute Change of Plans

Not all moves go exactly as planned, and Leann’s move was a perfect example. She initially called to cancel her move, saying she wasn’t relocating anymore. Then, the very next day, she rang back, asking if we still had a truck available because she was ready to go after all.

Despite our packed schedule, we managed to fit her in for a morning slot. The team loaded up her belongings and transported them to our Notting Hill depot for storage. Once there, we ran into another challenge—her pre-booked storage unit had been reassigned when she cancelled. That meant we had to think on our feet. We quickly reshuffled our storage plan, securing space in other units and making sure all her items were properly stored. Some of her larger pieces wouldn’t fit in the allocated units, so we safely labeled and stored them in our secure area.

Rolling with the Challenges

This week has thrown a few curveballs our way, but we’ve taken them in stride. With fewer hands on deck and some unexpected twists, we had to stay flexible and find solutions on the go. We really appreciate our clients’ patience and understanding as we worked through the challenges.

At Jakes Removals, we’re all about making moves as stress-free as possible—whether it’s shifting a grand piano, heavy gym equipment, or dealing with last-minute changes. No matter what comes our way, we’re committed to getting the job done right.
